O-Diesel, can you dig it? The name sounds familiar. The fitness studio in the heart of Tribeca founded by Celebrity Fitness Trainer Oscar Smith SHOULD sound very familiar. If not for the now 5 year life span in a primo part of town in the wake of our dwindling economy, then perhaps it should be for the impressive roster of clients that range from today’s athletes, celebrities and top models such as Tom Brady, Petra Nemcova, Rosario Dawson, Bridget Hall, and Ed Burns. There has been such an emphasis recently on just how effective Oscar Smith’s training methods were, that we decided to visit O-Diesel Studio, not only to have a look around, but to have a bit of a training session ourselves.
It’s easy to see how the 18 year fitness industry veteran is a success. Spawned from the good fortune of word of mouth from a few sexy Victoria’s Secret models a few years ago, O-Diesel has taken flight. Breaking from the trends in corporate gyms*** pervasive in a Metropolitan city like New York, Oscar Smith suggests “I wanted to go back into achieving people’s fitness goals as well as giving them a great service — hospitality (having a good personable and knowledgeable staff) as well as certain amenities — having fresh water towels, fruit for them –this is a service industry. You are getting better service, the owner’s here, you don’t have to worry and say, ‘Oh my God I have to call corporate’ with any decision, or write a letter to freeze your membership–you don’t have all that non-sense here.”
